About the role
Source Supply are currently recruiting for a caring, patient and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist school in Darlington, supporting children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), complex needs, and speech and language difficulties.
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will play an important role in supporting pupils with their learning, communication, personal development and everyday activities. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide individualised learning support, encourage independence and create a safe, positive and inclusive learning environment.
This role would suit a proactive, adaptable and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and making a meaningful difference to young people’s lives.
You will become part of a dedicated and supportive team that takes a nurturing, inclusive and child-centred approach to education, ensuring every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Previous experience in a SEND school or specialist education setting is beneficial. However, we also welcome applications from candidates with transferable experience in care, respite care, residential care, healthcare or support work who are looking to transition into a SEND Teaching Assistant role.
Requirements
Salary is dependent on experience, qualifications and training. All successful applicants will:
- Have GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4 or above – this is essential.
- Have experience working with children or young people in a school, specialist education or relevant care setting.
- Demonstrate a caring, patient, nurturing and consistent approach.
- Have referenceable experience working in a school setting.
- Be passionate about supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be adaptable, resilient and confident working as part of a team.
- Have a positive, proactive and can-do attitude.
- Ideally hold a full, clean driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
